Biography
British mezzo-soprano Alexandria Moon is currently a member of the International Opera Studio at the Royal College of Music in London and is the Lotti Masterson Scholar supported by the John Nickson and Simon Rew Scholarship in memory of Sir Peter Jones, studying with Mary Nelson. Her studies have been generously supported by the Opera Awards bursary and the Drake Calleja, Countess of Munster and Josephine Baker Trusts. Alexandria earned her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and her Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree previously at the RCM, graduating from both with distinctions.
Alexandria’s notable roles with the RCM include Concepción (L’heure espagnole), Marcellina (Le Nozze di Figaro), L’enfant (L’enfant et les sortileges), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) and Older Woman (Flight). Outside of the RCM, Alexandria has covered Mercedes (Carmen) at the English National Opera as well as Phoebe Meryll (The Yeomen of the Guard) and made her role debut as Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia) for British Youth Opera in a new production at the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe mentored by Dame Sarah Connolly. She has also performed at Opera Holland Park in collaboration with British Youth Opera as Mistress Ford (Sir John in Love).
Alexandria was a Garsington Alvarez Emerging Artist for the 2025 season where she was awarded the Simon Sandbach award. She debuted in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades as Masha and as a member of the chorus. She also covered Eduige in their production of Handel’s Rodelinda, performing the role in their OperaFirst production.
Alexandria’s recital accomplishments include appearances at the Wigmore Hall where she has debuted the world premiere of a long-lost scena by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor titled “Nourmahal’s Song”. She has also featured at the Oxford International Song Festival, Conway Hall, the London Song Festival, St John Smith Square and North Norfolk Music Festival
As a concert soloist, Alexandria has performed extensively across the UK with a broad repertoire encompassing Boulanger’s “Du fond de l’abime” with the RCM Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Andrew Davis (Royal College of Music), Bach’s B Minor Mass (Great St. Bartholomew’s, City Music Society), Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle (Guildford Choral) and Duruflé’s Requiem (Holy Trinity Sloane Square, Islington Choral Society) amongst other works.
Competition highlights include taking 1st prize in the Maureen Lehane 2023 Vocal Awards at the Wigmore Hall, 3rd in the 2024 Concerto Competition at the RCM with Ravel’s Shéhérazade and 1st prize in the Lies Askonas 2023 competition at the RCM.
Upcoming engagements include going on tour with Scottish Opera in their annual “Opera Highlights” tour of the islands and highlands where she will then return to Garsington as an Emerging Artist for their 2026 season to debut Flora in La Traviata and cover Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier.
